Assertiveness & Influencing Workshop Content
The common thread
Assertiveness and influencing are in some ways the opposite sides of the same coin: having a powerful voice. Being assertive allows the individual to be heard despite any pressure being applied; influencing operates best when there is no pressure to resist, and instead the individual can concentrate on being heard in a more positive setting.

Using currencies to build rapport
If you are based in the UK, then the currency you will use everyday is pounds sterling; if you went to France, you'd almost certainly take Euros. As it is for countries, so it is for individuals - we each have our own way of operating - our preferred currencies. And if you can spot and match someone's preferred currencies, you are likely to have stronger and more successful rapport.

Never 'death by powerpoint'
We always provide a variety of learning approaches in each of our workshops.
Each workshop typically includes learning input from the trainer, supported by a range of mixed media, interactive elements, discussion and group work. Most workshops also include case work and practical skill-development activities to apply the learning, with more time dedicated to this in the longer courses.
'Want more?' resource pack
In addition to providing a copy of any slide deck, we always provide a ‘want more’ section, of curated resources including book summaries, podcasts, downloads and articles.

What are the benefits of assertiveness and influencing training?
Assertiveness And Influencing Training Frequently Asked Quesitons
Why are assertiveness and influencing training appearing on the same course?
Because they are both associated with having a powerful voice: being assertive enables someone to have that voice when under pressure or challenging circumstances; being influential also means having a powerful voice, but in settings where there is less pressure from others, and the audience is likely to be more open and receptive...
Are assertiveness and influencing separate, or can they be combined?
Although there are separate techniques for each, any situation may require shift between them. For example, if someone successfully is listened to by using assertive techniques, then it may be sensible for that individual to shift to other techniques that are based on influence, rather than assertiveness.
Is it possible that what appears to require assertiveness would actually benefit from using influence instead?
A really good question, and the answer is yes. These three courses provide a toolbox of assertive and influencing techniques, and it is up to each individual to choose the ones that seem as though they will work best.
Which of these assertiveness and influencing training courses would be the best to choose?
The answer really depends on your primary need: if it is simply to get an overview of the assertive and influencing techniques, the short, 90-minute course may be all you need. If you want to explore and evaluate each technique in more detail, then the half day course will allow that. And the full day course covers all of this, and then devotes the afternoon to practicing the techniques in a range of scenarios, to provide embedded expertise and increased self-confidence.
