Effective Delegation
Training Courses

Delegation is a mostly under-used and often abused management function. Our effective delegation training courses will explain why - and how to use delegation properly and effectively.

'Delegation' is often used as if it meant the same as 'allocation', or used to dump unwanted work, or attempt to save time. None of these is what delegation is truly about, and can have really negative consequences. This delegation training for managers will show you how to get it right.

Effective Delegation Workshop Content

What? technically, what gets delegated, and to who?

Effective delegation is a combination of three key elements - all of which have to be correctly delivered.

Why? the purpose of delegation...

The three most common reasons for delegating are unhelpful and counter-productive. In contrast, use delegation for the right reason, and everyone benefits.

How? how to delegate effectively

Even if you know what, and why, you still need to do it effectively. Here's how...

Development through delegation

A step-by-step guide to creating a 'development through delegation' process that provides a win-win-win solution...

Managing the trust-control dilemma

Delegation means, to some extent, letting go; but how then can you be sure that the job will be done well, without over-controlling the process? These training courses will show you how to find the right balance.

Who is delegation skills training for?

Our delegation training courses are ideal for anyone who feels they should be making more use of delegation, and wants to know how to get it right. In particular they are helpful for anyone who wants to:

 - learning outcome Understand what 'delegation' actually means
 - learning outcome Make the best use of their staff, by using delegation effectively
 - learning outcome Give an effective delegation brief
 - learning outcome Find the appropriate balance between trusting someone to do a new job well, and having too much control over their work

Effective Delegation Workshop Activities

The 90-minute course will give you the key ingredients - what, why and how - for getting it right; the half day course builds on this by putting these key principles into practice, and demonstrating the difference between poor and excellent delegation. The full day programme focuses on allowing participants to design the delegation process, put it into practice, and receive feedback.

Never 'death by powerpoint'

We always provide a variety of learning approaches in each of our workshops.

Each workshop typically includes learning input from the trainer, supported by a range of mixed media, interactive elements, discussion and group work. Most workshops also include case work and practical skill-development activities to apply the learning, with more time dedicated to this in the longer courses.

'Want more?' resource pack

In addition to providing a copy of any slide deck, we always provide a ‘want more’ section, of curated resources including book summaries, podcasts, downloads and articles.

learning recap quiz
quiz round
reflection & consolidation
core learning input
role play & simulation
paired activities
your ideas & suggestions
My attention can easily wander, but this was never the case here, largely due to the variety of learning approaches used. Never a dull moment!

What are the benefits of delegation skills training?

Confidence in delegating effectively
Use delegation as a development tool
Increase team productivity
Better relationships with staff

Delegation Training Frequently Asked Quesitons

What's the definition of 'delegation'?

A good question. The term is often misused - and these training courses will make clear the difference is between what people often think it means, and what it actually should mean...

Don't people resent the extra work implied by delegation?

That depends on what the 'extra' work consists of, and the attitude of the staff member to being given that work - all of which will be covered in these training courses.

What's the main requirement for delegating successfully?

Understanding what the term truly means, and the real and beneficial reason for delegating. Once that is clear, the rest is really about managing the process effectively.

Which of your courses would be the best for me to take?

If you want a thorough overview of the topic - what, why and how - then the 90-minute course may be enough; but if you want to explore the process more thoroughly, then the half day workshop may be beneficial, and the full day course allows the participants to practice the design and delivery of the delegation process.
